38 free body diagram equations
A free body diagram (FBD) is simply a sketch of this information. What we usually don't know is the magnitude of one or more of the forces acting on the body or the acceleration. Apply Newton's Second Law to the FBD to find a set of equations that can be solved to find those magnitudes. I'm building a climbing training apparatus in my garage that both rests on the ground and hangs by a rope from a hook attached to a ceiling joist. I'm missing something from my free body diagram that's keeping me from setting up and solving my equilibrium equations. I have the full problem laid out, with included pictures and diagrams, at the StackExchange post [here](https://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/674883/statics-question-free-body-diagram-help-for-garage-construction-project). I’m on week 3 of my very first college-level gen physics course, and I have no idea what’s going on. I’ve never taken calculus, so maybe there are some knowledge gaps here and there, but so far, all I have is a huge list of equations and no idea how to use them. I feel like I grasp the concepts, but I can’t put the ideas into the math. I can do a free body diagram, but after that, I’m stumped. Any tips for a newbie physicist?

The problem asks for [the equation for an object at equilibrium on an incline](http://i.imgur.com/8jiXJLv.jpg) but why does it imply that you divide M by (m1-m2)? Shouldn't it be the other way around?
Free body diagram equations. [II](https://www.reddit.com/r/nosleep/comments/qjf42b/i_participated_in_a_group_study_involving_a/) Dr. Ramirez, looking to be in her mid to late-twenties, explained it all just perfectly, and perhaps in the easiest way it could be. In the room just ahead of the lab, she gave me a quick rundown of how exactly the machine was going to work. On a dry-erase board, she drew one big near-perfect circle, and inside of it drew another smaller circle. She then pointed at the smaller circle with her ma... A free body diagram consists of a diagrammatic representation of a single body or a subsystem of bodies isolated from its surroundings showing all the forces acting on it. In physics and engineering, a free body diagram (force diagram, or FBD) is a graphical illustration used to visualize the ... The net force concept is critical to understanding the connection between the forces an object experiences and the subsequent motion it displays. In this Lesson, The Physics Classroom describes what the net force is and illustrates its meaning through numerous examples.
This video is one of two covering how to create a pair of force equations from a single free body diagram. It does not cover the sources of the forces. It is... Hello, fellow physics people I have a question regarding the mathematics behind how a magnet will slow down as it falls through a copper pipe. I am aware of the mechanism in which this works, the falling magnet results in a changing magnetic flux which induces eddy currents in the copper pipe which creates an opposing magnetic field. However, I am not exactly sure how Maxwell's equations can be used to show the relationship between the speed of the falling magnet and the magnitude of the opposin... Q&A for active researchers, academics and students of physics So, for context, imagine a small toy car of mass m\_1 on a table parallel to the ground. The back of the car is attached to a string. That string is fed through a small pulley wheel at the edge of the table and the other end of the string is attached to a hanging weight of mass m\_2. In addition to this, there is a motion sensor at the other end of the table, directly opposite the car. Finally, there is a magnet attached to the back of the car (its mass is included in m\_1) as well as a magnet n...

It is based on the dynamic diagram of Section 18.2.1, General two-dimensional free-body diagram for an aircraft, and Equations (18-1) and (18-2)(18-1)(18-2). However, it has been modified to represent level flight, yielding a form familiar to many pilots, in which L = W and T = D.
The free body diagram allows you to set up the problem properly so that you can correctly solve for unknowns such as forces, and acceleration. It allows you to get a “feel” for what’s going on before applying the equations of motion. It is especially important for more complicated problems ...
The first step in describing and analyzing most phenomena in physics involves the careful drawing of a free-body diagram. Free-body diagrams have been used in examples throughout this chapter. Remember that a free-body diagram must only include the external forces acting on the body of interest.

Hey everybody, this is an online physics assignment http://imgur.com/a/6bbNM honestly have no idea how to do this one :( http://imgur.com/a/BMBYl (just #13 in this one) For this one, my friend and I thought we did it the right way, getting 1.91 N, but it says its wrong. Thank you so much in advance!

Work - energy principle states that work done by net force acting on the body equals change in kinetic energy of the body. We are talking about continuum mechanics. This principle is usually introduced in mechanics of solid bodies. For us to describe the motion of the body, it is enough to know how center of mass of the body moves in time and space. For example, we can conclude that body accelerates, if its center of mass has different velocity in two points in time. I am not sure how to adequa...

The motion of objects is determined by the relative size and the direction of the forces that act upon it. Free-body diagrams showing these forces, their direction, and their relative magnitude are often used to depict such information. In this Lesson, The Physics Classroom discusses the details ...
I don't really know if this is something that people here are interested in or have the expertise to do, but has anyone actually ran the numbers on the chain? Do we know F(L), where L is some parametrized distance, along the entire chain? For simplicity let's assume that the chain has reached its steady state height. And say the cup is height "h" above the ground, in addition to whatever variables and assumptions you need for the math. Like, this isn't as interesting as experiments or simulatio...
